Erika Miranda and Ketleyn Quadros Won Two Medals for Brazil in the GP from Dusseldorf

Luiz Revite gets the fifth place after the round against the world champion and ranking leader. Brazil will have three athletes on the mat this Saturday.

Erika Miranda and Ketleyn Quadros Won Two Medals for Brazil in the GP from Dusseldorf

The Grand Prix from Dusseldorf began this Friday (February 21st) and Brazil got two medals. Erika Miranda (52kg) and Ketleyn Quadros (57kg) had to defeat very tough opponent to reach the podium. Jaana Sundberg (FIN) and Miryam Roper (GER), ranked on the third and second positions in their categories, were the opponents defeated in the final fight. Erika had overcome Maria Ertl (GER), Bundmaa Munkhbaatar (MGL), before losing to Yuki Hashimoto (JAP) in the semifinals and facing Sundberg in the contention for bronze. In her turn, Ketleyn Quadros, before frustrating the home crowd defeating Roper, won over Noskova Tatiana (RUS) and Catherine Beauchemin-Pinard (CAN), before facing in the final Sumiya Dorjsuren (MGL).

Luiz Revite (66kg) began defeating his counterparts such as Islam Baialinov (KYR), Sebastian Seidl (GER) and Alim Gadanov (RUS). In the semifinals, he had to face the Japanese Masahi Ebinuma, the current world champion, and also the international leader of his category, Tumurkhuleg Davaadorj (MGL) in the contention for bronze. Revite fought firmly, but he was thrown by ippon in the last minute of the fight and got the fifth place.

The other Brazilians of the day did not reach the fights for medal. Diego Santos (60kg) started defeating Nicholas Kossor (USA), but he could not overcome Vincent Limare (FRA). Gabriela Chibana and Nathália Brigida lost right from the first round against Kristina Vrsic (SLO) and Celia Maria Laborde (CUB), respectively.

On Saturday, Brazil will be represented by Mariana Barros ( 63kg ) – whose first fight is against Nadia Bażyński (GER); Barbara Timo (70kg) – competes first against Iljana Marzok (GER) - and Alex Pombo (73kg) who fights first against Ruslan Uulu Dzhanybek (KYR). On Sunday, Samantha Soares (78kg), Rochele Nunes (+78 kg), Eduardo Bettoni (90kg) , Luciano Correa (100kg), Rafael Buzacarini (100kg) and Rafael Silva (+100 kg)  take part in their first official competition of the year.

The technical committee from Dusseldorf is composed of the coaches Luiz Shinohara, Rosicleia Campos and Mario Tsutsui; the nutritionist Gisele Lemos and the physiotherapists Roberta Mattar and Thiago Takara. The referee Jefferson Vieira joins the delegation as well.
