Brazilian Judokas Have Successfully Passed 55 Doping Tests in 2013
35 athletes who composed the Brazilian senior team had a negative result concerning the illegal substances. The goal is to hinder the use of doping elements even in between competitions.
The concern related to the doping control has grown more and more among the people involved with sports. The same situation happens in judo. All the competitions from the international calendar follow the rules of the International Judo Federation and WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency), regarding the control against the use of illegal substances. After each competition, some champions and drawn athletes by the organization are asked to do the test after their participation on the mat. The results are then sent by a specialized laboratory which has analyze before the taken sample and report whether any illegal substance has been found in the body of the tested athletes.
Willing to keep an eye on the doping even within national borders, the Brazilian Judo Confederation promote, on their own, frequent testing activities. During training camps in which female and male teams from different weight categories take part, testing is made, as well as in the National Selection for Rio 2016 - Stage II, in December which will define the Brazilian team for 2014. In addition to the \"off competition\" tests as they are called, the BJC is also responsible to conduct awareness lectures regarding this topic, and in the beginning of every season, athletes will be handed some guides explaining how to prevent doping and a list with banned drugs.
\"I consider it to be an important measure of prevention and awareness of athletes and coaches. We try to always work with the method that will most clarify what substance cannot be taken and alternatives to doping drugs. We understand that this way we will reduce the chances that an athlete from our team be involved in a doping case, \"said the Performance Director of the Brazilian Judo Confederation, Ney Wilson.
In 2013, 55 tests taken by the senior athletes of the Brazilian Judo Team were registered, all of them having negative results for illegal substances. With an extensive calendar and a large changeable team, there were 35 athletes being tested in antidoping from January and November.
The most tested athletes were Maria Suelen Altheman (five times), among women, and Charles Chibana and Rafael Buzacarini (three times each), among men.
\" I consider this doping control extremely important. It deters any attempts to take advantage in an illegal way and, at the same time, it proves to the athletes that they are able to reach their goals without the use of snares. Thus, the sport gets fairer, since it proves that training is the best way to become a winner, \" says the middle heavyweight athlete, Rafael Buzacarini.
