Brazilian Athletes Fight for 11 Medals in the Open Montevideo

The Panamerican Open Montevideo began on Monday, March 17th, with the men’s extra-lightweight, half lightweight and lightweight categories and the women’s extra-lightweight, half lightweight, lightweight and half middleweight categories.  There will be 40 Brazilians competing today and tomorrow. On the first day, Brazil will be involved in 11 medal-worth rounds according to the following list :

Women:

In the extra-light category, Gabriela Chibana and Jessica Henriques compete against each other for bronze.

In the half lightweight, Raquel Silva faces the British Louise Renicks for gold whereas Rafaela Barbosa and the Argentinian Oritia Gonzalez are in contention for bronze.

In the lightweight, the Brazilian are in contention for the two bronzes: Flavia Gomes against Stephanie Inglis (GBR) and Giullia Penalber against Hannah Carmichael (USA).

In the half middleweight, Katherine Campos reaches the final against Sarah Clark (GBR) and Mariana Silva tries to get the bronze against Jodie Mullen (GBR).

Men:

In the extra-light category, Allan Kuwabara fights against Nicholas Kossor (USA) and Eric Takabatake faces Juan Perez (CHI), both for bronze.

In the half lightweight, Luiz Revite is in contention for gold against the Russian Denis Lavrentiev.

In the lightweight, Marcelo Contini is also in the final and faces the French Ugo Legrand for gold.

The Brazilians who will step tomorrow on tatamis are: Dennis Barbosa ( 81kg ) , Felipe Soares (81kg ) , Felipe Costa ( 81kg ) , Milton Miranda ( 81kg ) , Ricardo Trevisan ( 90kg ) , Marcelo Ferreira ( 90kg ) , Eduardo Bettoni ( 90kg ) , Hugo Pessanha ( 100kg ) , John Gabriel Schlittler ( 100kg ) , Horacio  Antunes ( 100kg ), Ricardo Koga ( +100 kg ) , Márcio Santos ( +100 kg ) , Gabriel Santos ( +100 kg ) , Kelly Mosquita ( 70kg ) , Samantha Soares ( 78kg ) , Tuany Siqueira (+78 kg ) and Rochele Nunes ( +78 kg ).
