Last Thursday, there were announced the teams who will compete in the team judo competition of the second edition of the World Combat Games, organized by SportAccord, gathering 15 Olympic and non-Olympic combat sports. The first edition of the Games was held in Beijing in 2010, with 13 sports on the program. The Savate (French boxing) and fencing first appear in this second edition.
The selection method is as follow: the first six athletes in the World Judo Championships Salvador 2012 and two best qualified athletes in the World Judo Championships Rio 2013 are eligible. In the female event, there will be delegations from Japan, China, Brazil, Cuba, Russia, Mongolia, France and South Korea whereas in the male one Russia, Japan, Georgia, Brazil, South Korea, France, Germany and Uzbekistan will be in contention. The competition will be similar to the World Team Competitions, concerning the weights and it will be held in two days: October 19th for women and October 20th for men.
\"It\'s an important competition, because we are measuring our forces with the best teams in the world. It will be also important for us to test some athletes in high level competitions\" analyzed the BJC’s Performance Director, Ney Wilson.
There will be no individual competition. Only team contests are considered. The formula adopted in 2010 has changed, when judo was included only in the open category.
