Brazil Is in Contention for Seven Medals in Pan-American Open, El Salvador 2014
This Saturday, June 14th, there have been 17 Brazilian athletes competing in the Pan American Open, El Salvador. And seven of them will compete for medals. See below who is trying to reach the podium and other athletes’ performance during the competition in Central America.
Regarding the 52kg- category, three medals are at stake. Raquel Silva will fight for the gold in the half-middleweight against Angelica Delgado (USA). Rafaela Barbosa fights against Lisa Kearney (IRL) and Eleudis Valentim faces Luz Olvera (MEX) for the bronze award.
Katherine Campos (63kg) defeated Estefania Garcia (ECU), but in the semifinal, could not resist the Austrian Kathrin Unterwurzacher, and so she got in the bronze contest against Andrea Gutierrez (MEX)!
In the men's slight, Allan Kuwabara will fight for bronze against Jose Romero, Ecuador! And the lightweight two disputes for bronze in the Open! Stanley Torres faces David Ancor (CAN) and Mauro Moura fights against Alejandro Clara (ARG).
The other Brazilians did not reach the final block. Nathália Brigida, the only Brasil’s representative in the extra-light category and competing for the first time after her knee surgery, was defeated by Nadine Encarnacion (USA) and Shira Rishony, Israel, in the repechage.
In women's half lightweight, Jessica Pereira started winning over Fatima Gomez (ESA) but the key decision she could not resist to Lisa Kearney. In the repechage, she lost to the Mexican Luz Olvera.
Flavia Gomes (57kg) started winning over Yolanda Arcos (ECU) and in the key decision she lost to the world vice-champion Marti Malloy (USA). In the repechage, she was defeated by Camila Minakawa, the Brazilian who is now defending the colors of Israel.
Rafael Barbosa (60kg) defeated Andrew Taylor (USA) but, as a result, lost to Jose Romero of Ecuador.
In the half lightweight category, Vinicius Sakamoto Leal won his first fight against the Salvadoran Gustavo Aguilera but, he was further defeated by Antoine Bouchard (CAN). Lucas Bernardo had a similar performance, defeating Ciganovic Ilija (SRB) and losing in his second fight to Kenneth Van Gansbeke (BEL).
Rayfan Barbosa lost his first fight to Austin Cook (USA) same performance as Adriano Souza’s who was defeated by Laureano Martin (ARG).
In the lightweight category, Leandro Cunha could not resist to Everet Desilets (USA) and Walbercy Aiva was defeated by Alexander Tuner (USA) in his first fight of the tournament.
