Brazil Fights for Seven Medals in the Santiago Open
Brazil had a good start in the Santiago Pan American Open. There were eleven Brazilians fighting on Saturday, July 26th and seven of them reached the contention for medals. You can check all the keys on the portal www.ippon.org.
In the women’s, the only Brazilian judoka fighting today reached the final block that begins at 6 pm, Brasília time zone. Milena Mendes (52kg) won two matches and is in contention for bronze against Marie Muller of Luxembourg.
In the extra-lightweight category, Diego Santos is in the grand finale against Aaron Kunihiro (USA), head-key number two. Phelipe Pelim, who lost exactly the fight against this American, goes in search of bronze against the Argentinian Hernan Birbrier.
In the men’s half lightweight category, the Brazilians will try to get three medals. Vinicius Sakamoto Leal disputes the bronze against the Mexican Jesus Chaparro and Thelmo Gomes against the Canadian Simon Gaudreault. And in the last fight, Daniel Santos will face the Canadian Patrick Gagne, the highest placed athlete in the world ranking among those who are taking part in the competition.
And in the lightweight catergory, João Pedro Macedo won his three fights, defeating even the head-key number one, the Canadian Alexis Morin-Martel in the semifinal, and now he seeks the Santiago Open title against the Canadian Arthur Margelidon.
