There Are 20 Days Left Before the World Championship and the Countdown Clock is Launched in Santos Dumont Airport

It was the president of the Brazilian Judo Confederation, Paulo Wanderley Teixeira, who announced the event and the Olympic Champion Sarah Menezes and the World Champion Tiago Camilo who presented to the public the countdown clock for the World Championship of Rio de Janeiro, in the departure lounge from Santos Dumont Airport. The counter showed there were exactly 20 days left before the championship starts; it will be carried until September the 1st.

“Since 2010, when we won the right to host World Championship, we have been working day and night for organizing this competition. It is a big challenge and I feel that we are prepared to hold again a big event. Twenty days seems to be a lot of time, but not for us. We feel like it is tomorrow, \" Paulo Wanderley said.

The State Secretary of Sports and Leisure (SSSL) promote the World Championship together with the Brazilian Judo Confederation; this judo event will be held in Maracanãzinho during seven days. The Vice President of Marketing of the Sports Superintendence from the State of Rio de Janeiro (Suderj), prof. Alvaro Barreto, represented the entity’s Secretary and President, André Lazaroni, together with the Assistant Secretary of Sports and Events from SSSL, Leandro Alves.

\"We are not surprised about how great this event turned out to be, because we know there has been a long time job. There is a competent team that gives to Rio de Janeiro the opportunity to watch the greatest judo athletes. The State Secretary of Sports and Leisure and the organizers are happy with our investment’s outcome “stated the Vice President of Suderj, prof. Alvaro Barreto.

Apart from presenting the clock to the audience, Tiago and Sarah represented the 24 Brazilian Member - Team convened to the World Championship. They taught a judo beginner’s lesson for the children living in Rocinha and who are part of the project Avança Judo, a partnership between BJC and Infraero which aims to promote the teaching of this sports inside the airport.

\" Knowing the Olympic athletes is very important for inspiring the children’s dreams. I remember when I’ve first saw Aurélio Miguel. This encouraged me a lot. Concerning the World Championship, I would like to mention that I count on everybody’s support in Maracanãzinho. I love to fight for Brazil, and when doing it at home, it is even more special, \"said Tiago Camilo, the world champion from Rio 2007.

The Olympic champion Sarah Menezes knows that her fighting style will be even more studied by her opponents but she wishes to improve her performance compared to the last two World events, when she was awarded bronze in Tokyo 2010 and Paris 2011.

\"It will be my first World Championship as an Olympic champion but I don’t think it will be different because of it. I often leave my titles in the past and start searching for new ones. The cool thing is that the audience will be on my side, “Sarah said.

The Brazilian women will be training at Team Brazil’s TC (Maria Lenk Aquatic Park) by August the 9th. On August the 7th, the trainings will be open to the press, in two shifts: 10h30 and 17h30. On August the 20th, all the Brazilian delegation convened to the World Championships Rio 2013 will check-in at Windsor Plaza Hotel (Copacabana) and start training at the Army’s School of Physical Education (Urca), at times yet to be informed.
