The Second Test-Event for the World Championship is Held in Rio

This Tuesday (9/7) the Interstate Contest Top Team Judo 2013 Rio took place at the Training Center from Vila Militar, western area of Rio, and it was attended by athletes from the states of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Bahia. The Contest was the second out of four test-events before the World Championship and the first one testing the system of individual competition.

The preparatory event aimed to test the functional and institutional areas and the teams who will be working during the World Championship. Moreover, the test took place in front of distinguished guests such as the Sports Secretary from Queimados-RJ, Mr. Luiz Carlos Monteiro; the President of the Judo Federation from São Paulo, Mr. Alessandro Puglia; and the President of the Judo Federation from Rio de Janeiro, Mr. Francisco Grosso.

\"The event’s objective was to test the teams. Logistics, HR, transport, integration between components led to a result that I consider extremely positive. The work continues to be intelligently and correctly run. This series of test-events, targeting the World Championship, will bring even more visibility to judo not only in Rio, but across the country. As more people are aware of this sport, its achievements and organization, closer we are to our goal,\" the president of FJERJ, Francisco Grosso, said.

São Paulo dominated the mat and finished with 26 medals: ten gold, six silver and ten bronze. In the second place, Rio de Janeiro won 19 medals: four gold, eight silver and seven bronze. Bahia won six medals – all bronze.

One of the major attractions of the competition, the former athlete of the National Judo Team, Rafaela Nitz (+100 kg), bronze-awarded in Grand Slam Rio 2012, showed that she recovered from the injury and she managed to win a gold medal.

\"Recovering from my injury and starting from a low level again, winning a competition with this structure, in front of supporting fans, in a World Championship-like environment, all this makes me motivated to work and compete again for the National Team. My category is very tough, there are two very strong Brazilian athletes- which is great - and I\'m training to reach the same technical conditions Maria Suellen and Rochelle are \" said the winner of the Contest in the category Heavyweight.

There are two more upcoming test-events for the World Championship Rio 2013: two International Contests on August 1st and August 3nd, in Queimados, in the Metropolitan Area of Rio de Janeiro. In the event from August 1st, athletes from Hungary and Spain come to Brazil, whereas on August 3rd the Cubans and Venezuelans are going to test the Brazilians. Some days before the big competition, the Brazilian Championship Under 23 will be held in the venue where the World Championship will happen and it will function as a general test.
