The Pan-American Female Judo Leads the Medals Chart of the World Judo Championship 2014

There are not only the women who are making the show on the mats. The strength of the female judokas can be seen across America. And one more proof of this was shown with the title of Chelyabinsk 2014 World Judo Championships. An analysis of the medals chart considering the continental associations shows that the Pan-American Judo Confederation won three gold, two silver and four bronze awards. The Judo Union of Asia won two gold, one silver and two bronze medals - all of them were awarded to Japan - and the European Judo Union got one gold, four silver and eight bronze medals.

The titles came with the Colombian Yuri Alvear (70kg), Mayra Aguiar (78kg) and the Cuban Idalys Ortiz (78kg +); The vice-champions were the Argentinian Paula Pareto (48kg) and Maria Suelen Altheman (78kg +); and the bronze medals were won by the Cuban Maria Célia Laborde (48kg) and Onix Cortez Aldama (70kg) as well as by Erika Miranda (52kg) and Kayla Harrison (78kg). With five countries on the podium, the Pan American Confederation also showed that does not depend on the most traditional countries of the continent regarding this sport, namely Brazil and Cuba.

"The work of judo’s decentralization developed in Brazil extended to the Americas. Athletes like Pareto, Alvear and Harrison are exponents of this sport in their countries and will provide an increasing number of practitioners and podiums in the long run. We are very happy with this result, "said the president of the Brazilian Judo Confederation and the Pan-American Judo Confederation, Paulo Wanderley Teixeira.

Regarding the men’s and general outcome, Asia got the first position whereas Europe was second place and the Pan American Confederation the third one. The African Judo Union and the Judo Union of Oceania did not reach the medals chart.
