President Paulo Wanderley Meets the Japanese Legend Yasuhiro Yamashita

During the draw of the World Judo Championship 2014, President Paulo Wanderley Teixeira met the Japanese judo legend Yasuhiro Yamashita, one of the greatest judokas of all times.

"We met in 2007 and since then our friendship has been growing. He will come soon to Brazil to talk about the Japanese judo in Rio 2016 as well as about the Brazilian judo in Tokyo 2020, "BJC’s President said.

Yamashita, 57 year old, is the current vice-president of the Japanese Judo Federation and provides consulting for several organizations such as the Tokai University and the International Judo Federation. He retired from competitive judo on June 17th, 1985 after a remarkable career. He was an Olympic champion in 1984 in Los Angeles in the absolute category and five times world champion, four times as a heavyweight athlete and once as an Absolute one. Additionally, he got nine titles as a Japanese champion in the Absolute category, which is considered the most important for the judo’s birthplace. He has a record of 203 consecutive victories (with 7 tied of them) until his retirement. Yamashita received the Japanese Award of Honor on October 9th, 1984.
