Paulo Wanderley Visits the Brazilian Judo Team Gathered in Mangaratiba
BJC’s President came joined by the entity’s group of administrative employees.
One day before leaving for Toronto, the judokas of the Brazilian team were visited by the President of the Brazilian Judo Confederation, Professor Paulo Wanderley Teixeira, at the hotel where they were gathered in Mangaratiba, Rio de Janeiro. Joined by a group of about 20 employees of the BJC’s administrative sectors, the manager visited the facilities provided for the team with the support of the Olympic Committee of Brazil.
The visitors observed the living area, a place of leisure for the delegation, the support rooms of each area (physiotherapy, strategy, psychology and nutrition), the fitness and physical preparation gym and in the end the dojo itself, where the group saw the athletes who were training there.
At the end of the visit, the president said a few words and said goodbye to the delegation that will represent Brazil in the Pan American Games in the coming weeks.
"One always has to remember the story and tell how one got here. It was under our management that we rescued some former athletes and include them in our coaching staff such as Mario Tsutsui, Rosicléia Campos, Luiz Shinohara and Douglas Vieira. In the 1980’s, the team used to gather in a great accommodation in Minas Gerais and the coach used to wake up earlier than the athletes in order to measure the basal frequency of each of them. This was our technological part and these were the facilities before the Olympic Games from 1992, when Rogério Sampaio won the gold. We tell all this so that people be aware of the history and appreciate what we have today so that the work of these people who have come here today be recognized, "recalls Paulo Wanderley before personally greeting each athlete of the senior team. "I wish you to have a very good fight. I wish you to become winners and especially winners on yourselves," he added.
The Brazilian delegation boards on Thursday, 02nd for Toronto. The staff will be gathered at the University of York until July 9th , when athletes start coming to the Olympic Village.
