Mayra Aguiar Wins the Gold!
Mayra Aguiar is the youngest Brazilian world champion. With a wazari applied after one minute and forty seconds of the fight against Audrey Tcheumeo, the Brazilian athlete wins the gold at Chelyabinsk 2014 World Judo Championships. Mayrão, as she is known because of her size and strength, had already made history before reaching the decision. With the victory in the semifinals over the current Olympic champion, the American Kayla Harrison, she won her fourth medal in World Championships and became thus the Brazilian with most medals in this type of competition.
As Mayra had a fantastic performance throughout the World Judo Championship 2014, she dominated the fight against the French Audrey Tcheumeo, world champion in 2011 and bronze awarded in London Games. After one minute and forty seconds of fight, she got a tai-otoshi which was worth a wazari. After that she just controlled the fight - despite being punished twice - until the time out.

The Greek Ilias Iliadis also conquers his world title for the third time among the middleweight athletes, his fifth medal in this kind of competition - the other two were silver – and it confirms the fantastic performance of the greatest world judo names. The silver went to Krisztian Toth (HUN) and the bronze medals to Varlam Liparteliani (GEO) and Kirill Denisov (RUS).

The Colombian Yuri Alvear, who almost lost to the Brazilian Barbara Timo in the second round of the middleweight category, goes to the judo history by winning the world title for the third time!
