Ceará Hosts the International Judo Cup and a Seminar Held by Uichiro Umakakeba
The event will be held this weekend in Fortaleza and will be attended by around 1600 judokas.
Next Saturday, November 15th, the capital of Ceará will host the International Judo Cup of Fortaleza. This edition is no longer a regional competition, but an event in which foreign athletes also compete. The Cearense Judo Federation estimate there will be around 1600 participants in the tournament, representing 15 states and five countries.
One of the highlights of the competition, the judoka from Ceará, Erika Hellen, considers the Cup a good opportunity to prepare for the Selection Competition Rio 2016, scheduled on December 13th. This will be the last chance for the judokas who want to join the national team and stay in until the Olympic Games in Rio.
"The other selection competition was unexpected. I, as the youngest athlete, I got surprised and pleased by everything I’ve seen. Judokas grow a lot each and every year. The training sessions, travels and people who competed with and against me made me even more focused and confident, "she said in an interview given to Diário do Nordeste on Thursday.
Special training with Sensei Umakakeba
The fights of the International Cup will be held only on Saturday, November 15th but the programming brings a special event this Friday, 14th. The coach of the Olympic vice-champion Tiago Camilo, the renowned Sensei Uichiro Umakakeba, will held a technical seminar for black and brown belt coaches, at 19:30, in the gym of Círculo Militar located in Meireles, the same place where the fights are played.
