Brazil participates in the World Kata Championships
This weekend, September 20th and 21st in Spain, the World Kata Championship was held. Organized by the International Judo Federation (IJF), with the support of the Spanish Federation, the competition composed of 111 pairs of athletes was run at Sport Palace in Malaga. The world title was seeked in Nage No Kata, Katame no Kata, Juno No Kata, Kime No Kata and Kodokan Goshin Jutsu. The five continents were represented by 28 countries. Brazil had 10 representatives (five pairs) in the tournament, but they did not reach the podium. Today and tomorrow, the athletes stay in Malaga to participate in a Training Camp.
The Brazilian teams were formed by: Wagner Uchida and Paulo Ferreira (Nague no Kata), Fabiano Barros and Anderson Silva (Nague no Kata), Eliane Pintanel and Roberson Passos (Ju no Kata), Grace Silva and Ana Ribeiro (Ju no Kata) and Marcus Michelini and Diogo Colela (Kime no Kata).
Head of the Brazilian delegation, Rioti Uchida, 6th Dan and one of the biggest names in the Brazilian Kata, holder of three world titles (Canada 2005, France 2006 and Brazil 2007) and member of the International Kata Commission of the International Judo Federation last year, also participates in the training.
