Brazil Is Pan-American Champion in Kata
Wagner Uchida and Paulo Ferreira became Pan American Kata vice-champions in a completion held this Sunday, April 27th, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. The Brazilian duo competed against rivals from Ecuador, Colombia, Chile, Venezuela and Peru. The title was won by Colombians.
\"It\'s a big responsibility to represent Brazil in such an important competition such as the Pan American Championship. We were a little nervous but we did it well, “Paulo said.
\"The Colombians were our main rivals, indeed. They are quite experienced; they even participate in World Championships. I think we made a clear presentation and this ensured our medal, “Wagner said. Colombia also won the title in the female, followed by Ecuador and Mexico.
Kata is a set of basic techniques, a special study method, to convey the technique, the judo spirit and purpose. According to the master Jigoro Kano: “The Katas are the judo essence. In its absence, it is impossible to understand its scope.”
