Petrobras Is the Most Recent Sponsor of the Brazilian Judo
Petrobras is the most recent sponsor of the Brazilian judo. The contract was signed this Tuesday morning (11/06), at Petrobras’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro, in the presence of the company’s President, Maria das Graças Silva Foster; president of the Brazilian Judo Confederation (BJC), Paul Wanderley Teixeira; and Olympic judo medalists Mayra Aguiar, Rafael Silva, Sarah Menezes and Thiago Camilo. Petrobras will be investing in judo R$ 20 million in the next four years. The sponsorship is part of Brazil Awards Plan of the Federal Government; its aim is placing Brazil among the Top 10 Olympic countries and in Top Five at the Paralympic Games Rio de Janeiro 2016.
Brazil Awards Plan 2016 was launched in September 2012. According to the Plan, the Ministry of Sports prioritizes the sports which are most likely to get medals. Therefore, 21 Olympic categories, including judo, and 15 Paralympic ones have been selected. The judo was the most awarded Brazilian sport during the Olympic Games. There were 19 medals, distributed as follows: three gold, three silver and 13 bronze. Due to this newly recent sponsorship, the Petrobras logo will be embroidered on the uniforms used by the National Judo Team during national and international competitions. It will be also included on the BJC’s site as well as at the Confederation’s headquarters, in the official bus of the athletes and in promotional activities and all national competitions organized by the Confederation. Moreover, Petrobras sponsorship is linked with the organization of the World Judo Championship from August 26th to September 1st 2013, in Rio de Janeiro.

Olympic Sports
Since 2011 Petrobras has also been supporting, according to the Petrobras’s Program Sport & Citizenship and to the Federal Law of Sports Incentive, several types of sports such as boxing, fencing, weightlifting, rowing and taekwondo. The main aim of the sponsorship is to offer the best conditions for the development of the athletes from these five sports, encouraging their performance so that Brazil can be well represented in the major international competitions.
